The series comes to an end with Ichiro and Shiori heading to an ice rink for a date and a summer fireworks festival in the middle of winter.
I’m super happy we got to see Shiori and Ichiro go on one last date this season. It took Shiori twelve episodes to realise that her entire wardrobe consists of black dresses, but hey she got there in the end. Besides, the black dresses really suit her. She went clothes shopping before in the episode 4/5 mark, but never actually bought anything until now. Chibi-chan helped her out, let’s be honest her love for Ichiro was pretty obvious.
The Ice Skating Date
They still get a little bashful around each other which is understandable, but for the most part Shiori and Ichiro are used to each other’s company. Watching them skate around the ice rink together was super nice.
This scene was the most emotional scene in the entire series, I just wish they didn’t put it in the last episode. It came out of absolutely nowhere, and the way it was executed was genius. So first off, Fumio said a full sentence. This immediately surprises the audience makes you react like “wow, he spoke so much!” not really paying too much attention to what he actually said (he said he wanted to play with Shiori instead of Machi as we saw). They then capitalise on that shock and have Machi burst into tears directly after Fumio’s harsh words, throwing the viewer into a state of further shock and surprise. Fumio only said what he said out of consideration for his big sister though, he wanted to stay with Shiori so Machi could go over to her friend’s house. Machi took it the wrong way, and thought that Fumio was saying he didn’t want to play with her. The way she just burst out crying, I’m not that easily moved but something about the way the scene played out really got me emotional. Ichiro comes rushing in to calm her down, Shiori has no idea what to do, oh my god this scene was good. It’s not often I’m so taken aback by an anime scene that I physically put my hand over my mouth in shock, but this one got me. We’ve seen how much Machi adores her little brother over these twelve episodes, so this scene was a gut-wrencher.
Thoughts On This Anime
This anime was super good! Really relaxed, laid back, nothing too dramatic goes down (until the scene detailed above), perfect for when you want something chill to watch. Let’s hope for a season two!
