After the attack from Reunion, the team finally succeeds in taking The Doctor home, although some members of the squad had to sacrifice for that to happen.
The story thus far
Natural disasters with unidentified origins have periodically struck various locations on Earth. Therefore, the majority of people moved to live in mobile cities that were created over time in order to avoid these natural calamities.
Due to the enormous energy of the Originium left at the scene of such catastrophes, civilization advanced quickly. However, it also carried with it another thing: the incurable disease known as Oripathy.
Oripathic individuals face persecution in regimes of segregation and hard labor since their bodies gradually crystallize and become a fresh source of infection at the moment of death.
People who have experienced government oppression start to resist. In an effort to rid the world of the sickness, Rhodes Island, a pharmaceutical corporation seeking treatment for Oripathy, picks up guns and starts a quest to save all lives from the disease.
When Talulah abruptly stops attacking the squad, the group seizes the chance to evacuate the area, but as they try to retreat, fire meteors from above begin to fall.
Ace decides to stay and keep Talulah and her attack squad busy, while the others escape. Amiya collapses after using too much magic to protect the team so they take her to the extraction point along with part of the squad.
Ace appears in a scene after and instructs the only other survivor to flee, appearing to sacrifice himself even though we don’t actually see him die. I suspect he’s not really dead.
Finally escaping Chernobog
The remaining team finally escapes, distraught after hearing about Ace’s apparent death, they try and go toward the extraction point, when a new Reunion member approaches.
She calls herself W, and Amiya swears she already met her somewhere, W affirms that she’s here to take The Doctor, but then says that it doesn’t matter because “she already has what she came for”
After this bizarre encounter, they finally get on the helicopter and fly to safety. While on the helicopter Doberman talks to The Doctor about Originium and the way it forms.
The Doctor after the trip, is so spent that falls asleep, he then wakes up in a guest room on Rhodes Island, and his pad’s AI starts talking to him, introducing him to the island and how it works, like a portable Alexa.
The fact that The Doctor has amnesia is very convenient for us since everybody talks to him like he knows nothing of what’s going on, and we get to learn alongside him.
The AI as The Doctor travels to Rhodes Island explains that the entire establishment is a ship able to move from place to place, as many cities are at this time, to avoid catastrophes.
The island has its own economy and departments and all sorts of amenities to help the diseased and not. It’s kind of a Utopia of sorts in this kind of world. I personally really enjoy the futuristic design of this giant ship island.
Amiya and The Doctor
On the ship’s upper level, The Doctor meets with Amiya, here there’s a little dialogue between the two.
Amiya can’t stop thinking about Talulah, that accused her and the Rhodes Island crew to be idealists, but she stays strong and tells The Doctor she believes that she choose the right path. Then The Doctor tells her he will be helping her fulfill Rhodes Island’s utopic mission
We can see the relationship between The Doctor and Amiya deepening, and I’m here for it.
