Tanjiro and the gang are back! Read on to see what happened in the 50-minute long first episode!
The Infinity Castle
Time after time Ufotable prove their undeniable skill as an animation studio with their work on Demon Slayer, and they open up this new season doing just that. I don’t know what their budget per episode is, but this section honestly felt like a movie – breathtaking stuff. Animation aside, we got to meet some new Upper Rank Demons – Kokushibo, Doma, Gyokko and Hantengu. It’s going to be interesting to see which ones become the main antagonists of this arc! Also, Muzan seems to be getting very impatient with the progress that the demons are making. It wouldn’t surprise me if he starts enacting friendly fire!
Waking Up From A Coma
Following the intro scene, the episode picked up right where the Entertainment District arc left off, with Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke badly injured after their fight against Gyutaro and Daki. By the looks of it, Inosuke woke up from his coma first (seven days before Tanjiro) Zenitsu awoke “a few days before Tanjiro” (let’s assume it was three) and then Tanjiro awoke last. What am I getting at with this information? I’m getting at the fact the Inosuke is INVINCIBLE! Just like he says he is.
The Swordsmith Village
That sequence where the camera slowly pans up to show the village from an aerial perspective – wow. I don’t want to make this entire review about the animation but when it’s Demon Slayer, it’s hard not to. The village concealing its location was a cool twist; Tanjiro must have got piggybacks from at least 20 people just to get there, haha.
Fellow Hashira
So as it turns out, two other Hashira are present at the Swordsmith Village; Muichiro and Mitsuri. Genya was also there, being too harsh to Tanjiro as usual. The episode left off with that ominous scene at the end – who was that guy with the similar hair to Tanjiro? I guess we’ll find out! (Hopefully in this season, haha)
First Episode Thoughts
Yet another incredibly impressive display of animation prowess by Ufotable and an intriguing continuation of the Demon Slayer story. Just my personal preference, but I’m feeling the vibe of the Swordsmith Village more than the Entertainment District. The swords being forged, the hot springs, the location that is unknown to almost everyone, I really like it. Demon Slayer is back, let’s gooo! How are you guys feeling about this 50-minute long special and the return of Demon Slayer to screens in general? Let us know in the comments!
