The same game that celebrated receiving an award a few days ago, is now suing Discord.
Due to the leaks that occurred in October in the Genshin Impact game, information from almost a year’s worth of updates was revealed, about new modes, maps, and even new characters that are to come.
This led to the lawyers representing Cognosphere, a publishing company owned by miHoYo/Hoyoverse, starting a lawsuit in the California court to intimidate the Discord company to give them the leakers’ information.
This direct Discord court case requires Discord to provide Cognosphere with the name, phone number, address, IP address, and other information that identifies the Discord user, whose username is Ubatcha.
Ubatcha is well known in the Genshin Impact community, with 500K followers on Twitter, the same Twitter that has deleted all of his tweets as of late.
“Genshin Impact is an open-world action role-playing game that allows the player to control one of four interchangeable characters in a party. Switching between characters can be done quickly during combat, allowing the player to use several different combinations of skills and attacks. Characters may have their strengths enhanced in various ways, such as increasing a character’s level and improving artifacts and the weapons that the character equips.”
This type of leak has been happening a lot lately. Like some time ago, with the GTA6 leaks, when there was a major data breach that gave players previews of what could be GTA 6. This time, Genshin Impact is the one suffering from this same treatment, something that unfortunately could’ve been foreseen due to the game’s non-stopping popularity rise.
From a company perspective, these leaks significantly affect the development team that prepared these updates and additions to improve the game and surprise its player base.
But as a player, I must admit it’s almost a guilty pleasure to want to know what’s going to happen next….We know that it’s bad and it’s something that we shouldn’t go after, as we will be getting all of this information in the game later after all, but as soon as we read an article about how there have been leaks for a game that we love, it seems that we are always pulled into going after that information and finding out more.
As a quick disclaimer, LAN DOES NOT condone this behavior, and our team wants to emphasize that this type of action is illegal.
