The episode begins in a dark area, where a blonde woman is imprisoned, suspended on a wall. Suddenly, a lich with many of its underlings behind it approaches her, but before anything can happen, three girls, one wielding a holy sword, confront and quickly defeat the lich.
The scene transitions to the guild’s lobby, where news of the event has reached and is the talk of the town. Goblin Slayer enters, and despite attempts by his party to discuss the hero’s feat, he remains fixated on the goblin request from the previous episode.
The priestess tells Goblin Slayer to engage in a more meaningful discussion, and with some backing from the group, he finally agrees to communicate. The priestess and the high elf set boundaries for the upcoming mission – no poisoning, waterboarding, or burning of goblins. To everyone’s surprise, Goblin Slayer agrees.
The group travels by carriage to Watertown. Along the way, Goblin Slayer displays a knowledge of the town which he learned from the red-haired girl he lives with. Upon arrival, Goblin Slayer and the priestess visit the Temple of Law to meet their client, the revered Archbishop, also known as the Sword Maiden. Their conversation reveals her past, notably her role in defeating the demon lord.
Meeting the entire party, the Sword Maiden explains the troubling situation: a series of murders with victims found mutilated. The perpetrator turned out to be a goblin. With no clarity on how these goblins are entering the city, and with other adventurers gone missing in the sewers, the Sword Maiden, having heard of Goblin Slayer’s reputation, seeks his assistance.
The lizardman questions the inaction of the town’s guards, and it’s implied they’re unwilling to help due to the current ongoing with the demon lord’s resurrection. The Sword Maiden provides the group with a sewer map, and they embark on their quest. Before they leave, the Sword Maiden and priestess share a moment, with the priestess expressing confidence in their mission.
Down in the sewers, the party confronts and battles multiple groups of goblins, indicating a significant goblin presence underground. An unexpected challenge arises when a boat full of goblins attacks them. A clever combination of tactics, including the dwarf digging down and Goblin Slayer using a bottle of a mysterious substance, allows them to defeat the goblins.
However, their triumph is short-lived as a monstrous white crocodile emerges from the waters, attacking both the party and the goblins.
The party narrowly escapes by using a light spell to distract the goblins, but Goblin Slayer remarks on the goblins’ adaptability and the presence of boats, suggesting someone or something might be guiding them. The episode concludes with a glimpse of a mysterious figure in the sewers that seems to be a more formidable goblin variant.
This episode was another solid episode from Goblin Slayer. Something is happening behind the scenes and this episode is building up that. Especially with the reveal at the end. One thing I noticed about this episode is that some action sequences were a lot more fluid and well-animated than the previous episodes so that is something I appreciate a lot. The thumbnail of this article is one of the moments I think was pretty damn cool so look out for it. Overall, a solid episode with an improvement on action sequences. I can’t complain.
