The last episode was good, no doubt about that. But this second one? Wow, it totally blew me away! The storyline was even more engaging, and the animation and art style were simply amazing. I was completely hooked on all the action and intense, gruesome scenes – every second was pure adrenaline. Needless to say, I absolutely loved this episode.
That fight scene with the man-eater was straight-up the best part of the episode. The way they shot it made it feel so intense and exciting like I was right in the middle of the action. And even though we all saw it coming, the way they handled the monster killing the inn lady was just so well done. Although the way she still trusted the thing that she thought was her son, only to get totally wrecked by it in this gnarly, gruesome way is somewhat of an overly used trope, I honestly thought it looked really cool.
We got to see more of Maru’s power and how it seems that he can kill the monsters from the inside, killing the man-eater monster in seconds. Additionally, we also learned more about Maru’s story and the reason why they have to reach heaven – they have to find someone who looks just like him and inject him with an unknown liquid. Everything surrounding their mission is a mystery and it sounds fishy as hell.
This episode also dealt with some current themes, such as Tokio finding two of his girl friends kissing, and Kiruko’s confession that although they have a female body, they feel like they are a man in their head, so they consider themselves a man. This explains why Kiruko told the creepy men from the last episode that they are a boy too, and the bathroom mirror scene.
As someone who hasn’t read the manga (yet), this show makes me scared of getting attached to the characters, as I am always on the edge of my seat hoping they won’t all die. I also feel like the timeline will be jumping quite a lot and the pace will be fast, and honestly I still don’t know if that’s something bad or not. I am looking forward to the next episodes and to seeing how it will all unfold.
