10. Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories
The identity of the enigmatic Storyteller, who wears a yellow mask, is unknown, as is his place of origin. He makes an appearance at dusk where kids gather and tells scary stories based on Japanese urban legends to an eerie reception from his youthful audience. The Storyteller, however, is not your typical storyteller. He uses the ancient paper-scrolling contraption known as a kamishibai to add graphics to his already insane narrative.
A collection of brief horror tales, Yami Shibai opens with a bachelor who, soon after moving into a new flat, begins to feel someone pressing a menacing look into him. He has a solitary talisman on his ceiling, but he is unaware that it is one of the only barriers keeping him from a bottomless well of misery. As the Storyteller’s audience is drawn into the vile world of his words, each tale is more horrifying, horrifying, and horrifying than the last.

Along with Yuuko’s relative Kirie Kanoe and clueless second-year Momoe Okonogi, they investigate the famed school’s infamous Seven Mysteries.
In the book Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, a group of students bands together to investigate strange incidents at their school, gradually uncovering the cause of Yuuko’s passing.
8. Corpse Party: Tortured Souls
Nine students gather in their high school at night to bid farewell to a friend. As is customary among many high school students, they perform a sort of ritual for them to remain friends forever, using small paper charms shaped like dolls.

Now, trapped in an alternate dimension with vengeful ghosts of the past, the students must work together to escape—or join the spirits of the damned forever.
Corpse Party: Tortured Souls – Bougyakusareta Tamashii no Jukyou is a feast for mystery lovers, bloodhounds, and horror enthusiasts alike. It offers a sobering look at sacrifice, atonement, and how the past is always right behind, sometimes a little too near for comfort.
