At the end of In/Spectre Episode 2, Masayuki was suspected of the murder of his ex-wife, and Yuki-Onna requested her lady, Kotoko.
The Police Corner Masayuki
Episode 3 takes us into detail about why Masayuki is suspected and is a mixture of drama, and suspense, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. So, the police are sitting with Masayuki, and Yuki-Onna, who is now a rabbit, is in his lap.
The police first reveal the reason why Masayuki divorced his ex-wife, Mahiru. Masayuki hadn’t told anyone about it so how did the police know? What do you think?
It’s revealed that Mahiru has tried to kill Masayuki by slipping a sleeping drug into his usual energy drink, andshe planneds that he would fall asleep on the highway and die in an accident. He’s alive due to some lucky breaks, and he suspected his wife, so he looked into it.
And found, that she wanted her fortune and would go to her lover after his death. Masayuki was stricken and blamed himself here because he felt he didn’t give his wife enough time due to work. He divorced her amiably and even gave her half his fortune to compensate her.
The police reveal that his ex-wife suspected that he would later murder her, and he left a letter that explained her crimes and suspicions. The way the police turn the situation on him was dark and hard to watch.
No Solid Alibi?!
Masayuki was taken to the police station because he didn’t have a solid alibi. On the day of Mahiru’s murder, he was with Yuki-Onna, eating Tempura and drinking wine. But, he can’t tell the police this, so he’s in a dilemma.
Yuki-Onna waits for him and he returns at nightfall, and we find out why Masayuki’s wife looked like Yuki-Onna. Masayuki is such a romantic, and it slips out of him in front of Yuki-Onna, a constant in his life.
Masayuki is all hyped about finding the culprit using his time and money and is getting ready to go out without a plan. Yuki-Onna tries to reason with him, but he doesn’t listen. She forcefully stops him with a mini blizzard – the look on Masayuki’s face was epic here.
The Solution – Our Lady
After feeding and forcing Masayuki to relax, Yuki-Onna comes up with a grand idea to seek help from her Lady, Kotoko, the Goddess of Wisdom. She sends the request, and some nine days later, Yuki-Onna takes Masayuki deep into the mountains to meet her Lady.
There, an angry-looking Kotoko is waiting with a store-bought lunch box in hand and munching down her cold food. When Yuki-Onna prompt about her boyfriend, the dam is released and Kotoko vents about how he invited him but his construction job was more important than her. Her venting and anger over Kurou not joining her are so cute!
To test Masayuki and make him understand just how much Yuki-Onna trusts him, Kotoko fabricated a scenario where Masayuki is the murderer. Well, it was a pretty solid scenario and while Kotoko was narrating it, Yuki-Onna looked to be in pain, because she wanted to argue with her, but she was her Goddess.
Masayuki loses faith in Yuki-Onna’s lady and then when Yuki-Onna finally argues back, Kotoko reveals that she knows Masayuki is not the murderer, and she did all this cruel joke to make him open his eyes. As the Goddess, Kotoko takes her job seriously, and makes it her duty to save Masayuki from this case and his unable to trust people problem.
When Kotoko laughs, she breaks the tension and anxiety-filled scene, and Episode 3 was left at a cliffhanger here. What happened and who killed Mahiru will be revealed in the next episode.
