Michi, a judo competitor, quits the sport after losing in the final round, but her new classmate wants to start a judo club at their school
Michi, a judo competitor, quits the sport after losing in the final round due to a lack of time from high school activities and exams.
She meets a new classmate Towa, who defeated her in the final match, and finds out that Towa wants to start a judo club at their school. Michi and Towa join forces to form the club and continue their passion for judo together.
The episode’s plot
Michi’s disappointment in the lost match and the harsh training sessions throughout the year leads her to want to quit Judo forever. After the tournament, Michi and Sanae, her friend, plan to attend West Aoba high school, where they end up in the same class.
They are joined by their friend Negumo Anna who wants Michi to join the Kendo club. However, the Judo club is in danger of being disbanded and needs three members. In the end, Michi, with encouragement from Sanae, decides to give Judo another try.
A captivating show
The premiere episode immediately establishes a sense of nostalgia throughout the whole episode. The episode is characterized by bright colors, and a dreamy almost Disney narrative, creating a nice and comfortable atmosphere.
The show’s likable characters, each fitting into a specific archetype, successfully captivate the audience.
It is evident that Michi is the type of character who acts impulsively to avoid dealing with difficult emotions. Towa (dubbed by Chiyuki Miura, same VA for Shindou Arata in Pshycho-Pass), on the other hand, uses physical comedy effectively to convey her intense desire to make friends despite her lack of confidence.
Sanae is a character that stands out, with indications of potential romantic feelings towards her friend Michi, as seen in her reluctance to discuss her reasons for joining the club, I can see them ending up in a relationship, we’ll see…
A nice slice of life
Overall this episode was worth it, especially if you are a fan of slice-of-life or sports anime, I’d give this one a try, especially because of the animation, and most of all the photography, which is the show’s strong suit in my opinion.
