Previously on Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, we saw Gentz officially join Fina‘s family as their new father. This episode, Yuna escorts Noire to the capital. We learn a bit more about the royal family, and we watch them enjoy hamburgers!
Episode 7: Bear, Goes to the Capital
The seventh episode of Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear begins with Yuna approaching Lord Cliff’s mansion to pick up Noire. She notifies him that she will be taking Fina along with her, and Lord Cliff trusts her judgment. The three – Yuna, Noire, and Fina – set out towards Crimonia’s capital city for the King’s Birthday.
During their journey, Noire and Fina begin to talk, and Noire learns how close Fina and Yuna are. Subsequently, she grows a bit jealous and boldly declares Fina her Bear-rival (Bearival, if you will) and that she won’t hand over the bears so easily. After a few sequences of them traveling, when dusk approaches, Yuna makes a small Bear-house for them to stay the night in.
Moreover, in this Bear-house’s kitchen, Yuna makes Hamburg Steak for them for dinner, and Noire and Fina ask if Yuna can teach them how to cook it. Yuna states that sometime she’ll do that. The next day, they run into another Lord and his daughter Misa (Misaana) and they ask Yuna to travel alongside them the rest of the way. Eventually, Yuna agrees when Noire begs, despite her initial reluctance.
Upon their arrival in the capital, Yuna isn’t used to the stares she receives from the capital’s citizens. They approach another mansion where Ellelaura, Cliff’s wife and Noire’s mother, greets them. Yuna then gives her the Goblin King’s sword as a present for the King’s Birthday and Noire tells Ellelaura all about Yuna’s adventures and capabilities, embarrassing her a bit.
In addition, we meet Noire’s older sister, Shia, who challenges Yuna to a fight because she doubts Yuna’s capabilities due to her age and goofy bear outfit. They fight all the way until dusk, with Yuna being the winner every round, and we learn from Ellelaura that Shia has a large ego – also that she’s the same age as Yuna, 15. Afterward, Yuna makes Flan for them that night as dessert and the royal family of Shia, Ellelaura and Noire all love it.
The following day, Yuna and Fina go out to the town’s food market and buy loads of things like Cheese, Potatoes, and Bread – uncommon ingredients in this virtual world. Using them, for dinner that evening, Yuna makes Hamburgers and French fries, which shatters the family’s expectations because they find it so delicious. Ellelaura informs Yuna that she should make some sort of restaurant because surely she’d be a hit. However, Yuna decides she’s not interested in it at the moment.
As the episode comes to an end, we see a large horde of monsters watching the capital from a distance, as well as an unknown man with an evil smile.
Opinions / Analysis
The issues I have with this episode are the same I had with the previous — except for the fact that this episode was a bit more enjoyable to watch. They definitely upped the comedy and lessened out the melodrama on this episode.
I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but I still just want a bit more out of our protagonist. I’m not seeing Yuna change that much as a person, and while in some anime that would be fine where the protagonist is meant to be static and unwavering, it seems as though Yuna’s character development is the entire reason she was forced into this new VR world in the first place. It’s the basis for the show.
Noire is beginning to be a bit more annoying in my opinion as well. I understand she’s young but her sole character trait is being in awe at Yuna and loving cute things. Shia seems to be a bit more deep of a character, doubting Yuna because she sees herself so highly, and I hope to see more of Shia being actually nice in future episodes.
I predict next episode is going to have a large battle sequence during the King’s birthday party. I’m curious as to who the mystery man in the forest is, but I don’t believe he’s someone we know, and he might simply be another pop-up villain.
