Published between June 5, 2020, and September 24, 2022, “See You in My 19th Life” (also known under various alternative titles such as “Let’s Meet in the Next Life” and “Please Take Care of Me in This Life as Well“) is a romance Manhwa that explores the theme of reincarnation.
The story, crafted by Lee Hye, who handles both the story and the art, revolves around protagonist Jieum Ban and her childhood friend Seoha Mun. What sets Jieum apart is her extraordinary ability to remember her past lives, leading to a unique storyline that transcends time and death.
Jieum Ban’s character is quite unique. As someone who typically finds female leads in romance series written by men slightly irksome, Jieum Ban comes as a breath of fresh air in this female-authored Manhwa. She is blunt and straightforward, characteristics that consistently define her throughout the 114-chapter series. This consistency in character development is commendable and lends credibility to the storytelling.
The theme of “pure love” is explored in “See You in My 19th Life”. Jieum Ban’s unwavering love for Seoha Mun, coupled with Seoha’s ability to fall in love with the same person in a different form, paints a picture of destined companionship. This, blended with the reincarnation theme, brings a fresh and engaging twist to the conventional romantic narrative.
However, the series isn’t perfect. The art style, for one, occasionally detracts from the overall experience. There are instances where it might disrupt your immersion in the story. Nevertheless, this shortcoming does not overshadow the narrative that I found extremely adorable.
“See You in My 19th Life” is an excellent option for those looking for a light-hearted, fluffy romance series that doesn’t delve into dark themes. Well, okay, there is one — but it isn’t THAT dark. At least, not like what I’ve read. The story is exceptionally written, and the characters are well-crafted and relatable, making the readers’ journey through Jieum’s 19th life a captivating experience.
In conclusion, “See You in My 19th Life” scores a 7 out of 10. Despite some issues with the art style, the compelling story, consistent character development, and the unique approach to romance make this Manhwa a worthwhile read.
