Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is the official English title of Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu. This is Episode 6 of Part 1 of Season 1.
Last episode, we saw Rudy win over Eris in becoming her personal tutor. This episode, we’ll probably get a bit of a “tutoring session” between the two of them.
I mentioned this last episode, but I’m really, really hoping that Rudy doesn’t make any moves on Eris, because she’s quite literally his cousin.
Well, only one way to find out, right? Let’s watch!
This episode begins with Rudy getting told by Phillip to hide the fact that he saved Eris from the kidnappers last episode. The public story would be that Ghislaine did everything. He also meets Hilda, Phillip’s wife. Rudy tends to stare at the chest of every woman he meets, making Hilda not like him very much. We also meet Phillip’s father, who Eris takes after quite a bit with her violent tendencies.
Regardless, he notices that Eris is not wanting to study Math, reading or writing. We get a super gross scene that almost made me drop the series — Eris runs away from practice one day and he catches her sleeping in a barn. He goes up to her and says “If you don’t wake up, you’ll be assaulted” — and then assaults her by trying to take off her pants and underwear. Eris. She’s no more than 12 years old.
Later, he gets Ghislaine to talk about why she wants to study, in order to hopefully get Eris to understand why she ought to pay attention in class. Ghislaine tells a story about how when Paul and Zenith got married, she couldn’t calculate money and ended up having to eat monster poop to survive. Gross, but I think that’s supposed to be played off as comedy? Not sure.
Regardless, it goes well for a little while, but Eris doesn’t have any days off from school, so Rudy opts to get her 1 day off a week. On one of these days off, Eris wants to go into the marketplace in her city to look around. Rudy is calculating the prices of goods when he stumbles upon a merchant selling some sort of extreme aphrodisiac potion. Eris catches him, but he doesn’t explain what the medicine is for.
Regardless, the three talk about money for awhile when Eris offers to get him a book. Rudy declines, because she’d be spending her grandfather’s money and not her own. He offers to talk to Phillip to try and get Eris her own allowance, and she agrees.
Back at the mansion, we see that Rudy was bought the aphrodisiac by Eris, but she didn’t know what it was for. In a scuffle, Rudy drops it, and is very upset. Ghislaine and Eris tickle him to try and get him to talk about what the medicine was for.
Opinions / Analysis
This episode had the scene that made my skin crawl the most. Why the hell is this guy so horrible towards little girls? I’m just waiting for the time he actually snaps and does something absolutely irredeemable to them. Eris is a child and he is out here buying aphrodisiacs and assaulting her while she sleeps? How is he any different than Paul?
The protagonist is really, really grossing me out. I get that he was a shut in before and he went through tons of trauma, but he isn’t a kid, point blank. That doesn’t excuse the really gross advances he’s taking on Eris, his own cousin.
Regardless, this seemed like a generally slice-of-life episode where not much happened to advance the plot. We met 2 characters — Eris’ Grandfather and Hilda — who will likely be brought up again at some point in the future. In addition, Rudy leered over Eris quite a bit, and they went into the marketplace. Other than that, not much happened.
What do you all think? Was this episode just a filler where they introduced some people, or was it imperative to the overall story? Let us know in the comments!
