One more before the end

The year is coming to a close and unfortunately, that means most of your favorite shows this season are as well. If there is one truth to the universe it’s that everything comes to an end, and with My Hero Academia, we’re at the gate, on our way to the exit. Not only for this season but the series as a whole I’m afraid. When this cour of episodes ends, the next set will begin what is the beginning of the final arc of the My Hero Academia story. Yet, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. This is only the penultimate episode which means that we’ve got at least one more episode before Izuku and friends close up shop for the year.
Desperation versus Determination

So, what happens when you have a war of the desperate? Those desperate to overturn the ideals of society versus those whose job it is to uphold the ideals of society. Well, you get a struggle, and oh what a struggle this episode is. There are three very desperate breakneck fights happening at the same time here, and all of the events are happening at the same time. Were this DragonballZ this fight would have been like four cours, but it’s not, so instead what you get is the raw emotion of this struggle in all its glory. I’m going to break this portion down into the three fights that are happening. Heroes v.s. the Noumu, Best Jeanist v.s. Gigantomachia and the league and finally Shoto v.s. Dabi(Toya). There are a few key pieces that aren’t immediately a part of the fight, but we’ll save them for later.
Heroes v.s. Noumu
The remaining Noumu have devastated the Heroes. For everyone, they’ve killed the Noumu have killed five. Still, there are only a handful of high ends left and with a bit of grit and determination, they may be able to turn things around. That all changes, when the Noumu sense the flickers of Shigaraki’s consciousness, and they take off to go help their restrained master. They’re met with some resistance, but I’ll save that for later.
Best Jeanist versus Gigantomachia
Best Jeanist has successfully stopped Dabi’s Prominence Burn and restrained Gigantomachia. However, the hero himself is still injured after Hawks’ attack, and he’s barely holding on himself. Not only that, but Dabi himself is an uncontrollable wildcard, who while he’s not too much of a hindrance to the restraint of Machia, is still a menace in that, he’s out to destroy his family and anything that gets between him and that goal. He takes out Nejire and begins a clash with his little brother. In the middle of this, Spinner’s desperation forces a mostly incapacitated Shigaraki to give Machia the order to destroy and he breaks free.
Toya Versus Shoto

Dabi aka Toya chastises and goads his little brother as the two of them come to blows. Shoto’s fire and ice powers are pushed to the edge when brought against his brother’s extremely hot flames. Their fight goes blow for blow, and for the most part, they’re matched, but where Toya has his brother beat, is that his warped mind combined with his destructive power, can give him an advantage that exceeds even Endeavour’s capabilities.
Mirio Returns

With all these pieces in play, it seems like the villains’ determination will beat the heroes’ desperation. However, the tables turn when everyone’s favorite Tintin lookalike returns. Miro Togata aka Lemillion makes his first reappearance as a hero. In an instant, he turns the tables against the remaining Noumu and motivates the injured heroes to give one last push, a last push that only works, because even though the heroes have been struggling all season, the effort they’ve given and the little pushes they’ve made, all add up to make the villain’s final gasp for air fruitless. Still, we’ve got one episode left, aptly titled final performance. My Hero Academia Episode 12 gets an 8/10
