Previously on The Serial Killer Is Reincarnated into Another World // Serial Killer Isekai ni Oritatsu, we met our protagonist after he was reincarnated; now inhabiting a body with the name Shirukyi. This chapter, we get an additional ally, and meet another one of Shirukyi’s targets.
This chapter begins with Shirukyi entering a small orphanage. Many of the children recognize her and are excited. The person who runs the orphanage, a nun named Freiyu, runs towards Shirukyi in excitement. It appears they are very close.
We watch as the children excitedly play with Shirukyi. Later that night, Freiyu and Shirukyi are talking while the children are asleep. Freiyu laments that she wishes Shirukyi wouldn’t do “dangerous” adventuring anymore for money, but Shirukyi states that the orphanage requires some sort of income to keep going. Shirukyi, we learn, has both lied to Freiyu about her work, as well as given her money to the orphanage.
Shirukyi also states that she wants to do good deeds, because she views being reincarnated as her atonement.
Our story cuts to Number 11, Yamazaki. He’s the leader of the Reincarnated World’s version of a Yakuza gang. He rules his position with an iron fist, extorting money out of any and all businesses in the vicinity out of the threat of violence.
We see one of his lackeys attempt to murder Yamazaki. We learn Yamazaki’s Goddess-bestowed power, which is “hostility detection,” allowing him to easily counter or plan for any threats coming his way. He senses his lackey trying to kill him, causing him to “Give a warning,” aka, stab the lackey in the eye. Yes it’s shown to us, and yes it’s super graphic and gross.
When asked about what the next goal is, Yamazaki replies that they’re going to extort Freiyu’s orphanage for money next. His remaining lackeys protest, stating that she’s well respected and beloved in the area. Yamazaki states that that’s exactly why they’re going to extort her — and if she refuses, they’ll “Give her a warning.”
We see that back to Shirukyi, she promises Freiyu to never kill another person again as the two girls are embracing. The Goddess, who is watching, panics, thinking that surely Shirukyi will soon die unless she fights back.
Chapter Ends on this cliffhanger.
Opinions / Analysis
I really enjoyed this chapter moreso than the first! It gives us more development into our protagonist Shirukyi as well as fleshes out the world a bit.
However, one thing I’d definitely like to see is more fleshing out of the world — where exactly is Shirukyi located? What’s the town like? What does civilization look like in the new world?
I’m extremely interested in Freiyu; my theory is that there’s more to her than simply the good natured nun that runs the orphanage. I bet you, based on the tone of this Manga so far where everybody kinda sucks, that Freiyu has a darker side to herself as well.
