Iga’s Secret Ninja Core
In the last episode, Yumika tells Ittoki to follow her to a more secluded part of the Iga house, since they were in the middle of celebrations, but the episode ends without us knowing what they were talking about.
Episode 7 starts with Yumika telling Ittoki that she will be telling him about Iga’s Secret Ninja Core.
Iga’s Secret Ninja Core has been sealed away because it was too powerful, and its location is only passed down only to Chiefs. Yumika unveils a scroll with the registry of Iga’s Ninjas, once Ittoki’s name is on the list he will officially become one, asking if he is ready to take that step.
You Just Do One Day
Ittoki and the girls are sitting outside enjoying some watermelon and talking about school starting soon. They think back to how fun their summer break was, but Ittoki seems worried and asks when will he finally feel like a real ninja, and if it’s when they finally graduate. Kirei and Ryoko wonder about the question, and the only one who has an answer is Kousetsu – You just do one day.
Kozo runs up to the group and says there’s an emergency – The Academy is closing temporarily due to large numbers of absences, which seems to be just an excuse.
The group, Yumika, Kozo, and Tokisada gather around a TV watching a video about African Daisies blooming en masse. Confused, Ittoki asks what it is about and Tokisada explains it’s a code. They are convening a Ninja Grand Council, which can only be done at the command of the head of the NSC.
The leaders of all the prominent villages are called to form a high council of 13 ninja clan heads, and the meeting decides the future of all ninjas in Japan. The last Council happened 70 years ago when an armistice was signed to suspend the state of war between the villages.
The Ninja Grand Council
Tokisada and Yumika prepare to leave for the council, and Ittoki asks if he, as an heir, shouldn’t be going as well. Yumika tells him that a kid’s job is to study, and for him to not neglect his studies just because his summer break is going to be longer.
Tokisada, Yumika, and Mr.Kozo arrive late at the Council, where the other members are already waiting for them. Tokisada is mentioned right away as the demi-god, by someone he had fought with years ago, and who mocks him saying he had heard he’d lost his fangs. At this meeting are also other characters we are already familiar with, such as the principal from the Ninja School. Everyone on this Council seems to be trying to get on each other’s nerves, mocking and threatening each other.
Noticing the leader of the Saiga is missing from this meeting, we discover that they are now under Koga and thus will follow Koga in all decisions, the same as the Fuma Clan.
Breaking the Ninja Ordinances
The head of NSC, Hayato, goes straight to the point of this meeting – The Ninja Ordinances have been broken, and the balance they have protected over all those years is being threatened by the Koga Clan. Another member of this meeting mocks and belittles this statement, saying it’s just “a little thing between Iga and Koga”, to which the head of NSC says they have reasons to believe Koga’s actions would extend to the entire country, based on, for example, getting smaller villages to work under them as subsidiaries while having no register of those people working and instead even going missing. Another point he makes is that at the Ninja Academy, voluntary withdrawals are exceeding normal numbers, which the principal confirms.
In a separate room, Shione and her team are watching the meeting, in case anything goes wrong they can intervene, and they come to the conclusion that their captain was investigating Koga for acts of aggression without them knowing.
Hayato keeps the meeting going and asks for the Clans to testify if Koga had acted against their village, and depending on their testimony, the Koga Chief might be arrested. Some leaders deny any offenses by Koga, be it either because they have ties with the Clan, or because they are scared of them. The accusations shift, and suddenly the leaders who were supporting Koga, start questioning Iga for the death of Kishinmaru.
The Koga Chief tries to end this meeting, but Yumika fearlessly confronts him saying she has yet to give her answer. In a threatening tone, the Koga Chief tells her to watch what she says, as it’s “somewhat hard to listen calmly to the words of a filthy chief killer”, accusations that Yumika denies, and shows evidence against Koga for developing a new Ninja weapon. She goes further and says that Koga is attempting to use false vengeance as a pretext to invade Iga and expand its power.
Yumika threatens to say that the Iga is prepared to destroy its secret Ninja Core, which has been only passed down to respect their ancestors’ greatness but has remained sealed away to avoid great bloodshed, but if it stands to ignite a conflict in the present, burying it forever would also be following their ancestors’ wishes.
The only thing that the Iga Clan asks for is for nothing else to be taken from them.
No More Fear
After Yumika testifies, the Bizen leader, who appears to be really young, gains the courage to also testify against Koga, saying the Kusunoki house has already been scattered and the branch families’ small villages have fallen as well, no longer having the power to fight back.
Other members gain the courage to testify against Koga, and everyone starts standing up as a way of testifying, making the Koga Chief get arrested.
Genji Karajishi, Captain of the 2nd Division enters the meeting and reports that conclusive evidence has been found that Kishinmaru was killed by Iga, surprising everyone. He proceeds to explain that due to the jamming by the culprit, there was no security footage of the scene, or so the 1st Division concluded. The 2nd Division succeeded in extracting trace fragments of that data, and we can see in the security footage someone quickly attacked Kishinmaru.
Mr. Kozo, rightfully, tells him he can’t use this blurry video as evidence, to which Genji tells him that the video isn’t the most important part, but the audio, as the Ninja Cores are custom devices and there are subtle differences in their sounds – and this one is a match to the Iga Core.
A Chief Bears the Responsibility
Genji tells Yumika that a Chief has to bear responsibility for the village’s crimes and tells her to go with him, but Tokisada gets in front of her, with a kunai behind his back. Yumika tells Tokisada to remember what he ought to protect and asks him to tell Ittoki to take care of Iga.
This marks the conclusion of the Ninja Grand Council.
Take Care of Iga
At home, Ittoki is confused and worried about hearing the news that his mother has been arrested. Kousetsu walks up to Tokisada and tells him she will do anything to rescue Yumika, to which he tells her to not make any moves right now.
Tokisada delivers to Ittoki his mother’s message – Take care of Iga – and he asks his uncle, Mr.Kozo and Ms.Reiha to gather the members of Iga village.
In contrast, at the Koga building, it is being announced the NSC arrested the Chief because of an Iga plot, saying it’s a declaration of war from the Iga and they will fully mobilize to annihilate the Iga village.
Hayato is wondering why Genji was hiding that footage, and as he is rewatching it he notices something but gets stabbed in the back by Karajishi, who is using Koga’s latest model to sneak up on him. Hayato tells him there is something rotten about that video and it can’t be used as evidence.
Just Until My Mother Gets Back
At the Iga house, everyone is gathered and Ittoki shows up in traditional clothing to deliver the news to all the members of the Iga village and tells everyone that in the absence of the Chief, he will be selecting an acting Chief. As an Iga Ninja and the 19th legitimate successor to the Iga lineage, he wishes to be the acting Chief.
Our sweet Ittoki momentarily drops the serious act and cutely says it will just be until his mother gets back.
The episode ends with Yumika in jail, and Genji goes up to her cell and tells her he sentences her to death.
Yumika is being sentenced to death?! I hope Tokisada and Kousetsu can find a way to fix all of this before they go forth with this decision…
Ittoki coming forward to assume responsibility for the Iga Clan made me really proud of him, but what made me even prouder was to see that he is still our same sweet kid, even after the things he has been going through.
