The episode starts with a younger Kidou Minobe, Koga’s acting Chief, at the Koga laboratories. He narrates his own story: he was someone born sickly and feeble, who needed to be reforged to be fit to be Chief of Koga. The only memory he has is pain, months and years of pain, and every time he woke up in pain he wished for a world with no ninjas, as he was only alive and in pain because he was made to be a Chief against his will.
Genji Karajishi, leader of the 2nd Division, apologizes for letting him in his cell for so long and opens the door.
Promotions at Work
Karajishi holds a meeting saying it has been seventy-two hours without any contact from Goshogawara, and so from that moment on he will take on all authority as head of NSC. Shione confronts him saying she thought captain Goshogawara was on a solo mission.
He further tells them that Kidou Minobe will be released without indictment due to insufficient evidence, and Yumika Sakuraba has been determined to be the mastermind behind the plan to kill Koga’s Chief, and she must be executed, shocking everyone.
Shione gets promoted to Captain of the 1st Division, but instead of being happy, she thinks that something fishy is going on and that Karajishi is behind Goshogawara’s disappearance. She also believes that Karajishi appointed her as a captain because it’s convenient for him, somehow.
At the prison, Karajishi taunts Yumika outside of her cell and says Kidou Minobe has proposed a deal with her that will be beneficial to NSC and Ninjas as a whole, making him consider her execution if she accepts. She guesses that the deal they will make with her will be for her to hand out the Secret Ninja Core, which she declines.
Kidou tries to convince her, saying that if it was combined with modern technology it would bring about great development for ninjas. As she keeps declining he tells her she isn’t even a ninja and asks her how can she throw her life away like this – it must be her ego or her pride as the Iga Chief.
Karajishi tells her that her punishment is set to be carried out tomorrow – she has to make a choice, or she will die.
Tokisada receives a paper, and we can see on his face that it’s about Yumika’s death sentence. At home, he calls Ittoki to tell him about his mother’s punishment, and they hold a meeting with the people from the Iga village. Men from the village, including Mr.Kozo, are angry and in disbelief that they will execute the Chief. Kousetsu seems like she will break down crying at any time.
In regards to the disbelief that people are feeling, Tokisada says that the information comes from NSC, and it’s solid. Could it have been Shione helping Tokisada?
People from the village want to rescue the Chief. But it could be declaring war on the NSC and turning everyone against Iga. As everyone is angry, stressed, and anxious, Tokisada asks Ittoki to expel him from the village so he can save Yumika. If he gets expelled first, Iga won’t be deemed responsible.
Everyone is watching Ittoki awaiting him to make a choice, and Koutsetsu gets behind him with a knife to his throat and tells him to expel her as well so they can save her. She has no family anyway, only Yumika.
Love for Yumika
We finally get a flashback to Kousetsu when she was young, still hiding half of her face, but this time with a scarf. Yumika approaches her and asks her what’s wrong, and where are her parents. Bringing her home, Tokisada wants to place her at an orphanage, but Yumika says she can be her child.
Kousetsu is angry that Ittoki is taking so long to take action – Yumika is all she has, and all Ittoki has as well since he lost his father. Even if he doesn’t make a decision, she will still take action by herself.
Instead of expelling them, Ittoki tells Tokisada and Kousetsu to rescue his mother as Iga Ninjas and tasks the rest of the villagers to gather information to prove the chief’s innocence.
Kirei has been behind the door listening to everything … will she report back to Suzaku?
The Spy in Iga
Kidou wants to hold a meeting, probably about the plan to attack Iga, when he gets a visitor: Suzaku, who has information to give directly to the acting Chief. It seems that Kirei has sent a report to Suzaku informing him that Tokisada has left the village and is headed to recover the Yumika.
Suzaku believes this is the best opportunity for them to attack Iga given that their greatest asset is absent, and he requests to be included in a front-line unit for the attack. It seems he really wants to avenge Kishinmaru, and his father tries to reason with him that nothing about what he wants to do goes with Kishinmaru’s ideals, but Suzaku says he will be seen as a coward if he backs down now.
At the meeting to make the final decision on whether to attack Iga, Enbi starts his report:
- They were able to deploy more Asura squads than anticipated, if they add the Koga units to the equation, they have ten times more strength than Iga.
- After tracking Tokisada’s movements, he can confirm he left the village, just like Suzaku had told them, and then they lost track of him but they conclude he is heading to rescue Yumika.
Probably because now Suzaku is involved in the attack, his father, Housen, opposes the attack, and four other men oppose it as well. Suzaku’s father says that the Asura are unfinished – to introduce them to the front line of a long battle without prior operational success is premature, and they are underestimating Iga’s strength, and great damage to Koga will be unavoidable.
Koga wants to shed blood for the death of Kishinmaru, but revenge has no shred of rationality or productivity, and it’s not worth exposing Koga to danger because of it.
The chief shoots Housen. Koga has no place for cowards.
Ittoki’s friends are in a shopping center wondering about how and what Ittoki has been doing when a siren blasts a loud noise and a voice says that a fire has started at a chemical plant outside the city, and there is a risk of a toxic gas leak.
At home, Ittoki and the girls see the announcement on the news, and Mr.Kozo comes to the living room to warn them of the emergency. Ittoki thinks it’s about the fire, but Kozo tells him that’s all Koga information manipulation – when ninjas launch a large-scale attack, doing it at night doesn’t conceal everything, they have to block the target’s eyes and ears. Judging by the methods used, it’s safe to assume it’s Koga interference.
They have officially entered the war.
War Starts Now
Reiha shows Ittoki how they are ready to defend the village and a secret room full of technology.
At a bridge on the highway where Koga are, there is a member from the Iga village ready to fire missiles upon them. The missiles hit two trucks, and the man firing them gets excited and happy until he realizes that inside the trucks weren’t people, but the Asura robots. He keeps firing at them, but nothing can stop them and so he kills himself by an explosion, happy to die a shinobi’s death. But his efforts weren’t for nothing, 21% of the detected Koga forces are down. As Koga starts entering the village, the villagers are ready to protect what’s theirs.
Tokisada and Kousetsu are undercover as a couple who is going to a concert when they get stopped by an officer. After putting on some show, Kousetsu goes behind him and makes him fall unconscious. Changing into their Ninja Core Suit, they break through and get to Yumika, breaking her free, when outside is the captain of the 2nd division awaiting them.
In the preview for the next episode, we see the Koga unit going over their plan to attack Iga when Suzaku gets a message through an in-ear about his father being killed by Kidou, and Suzaku himself being in danger as well. The person tells him to run before they are killed.
