Since the last episode, the war has been set and ongoing, started by Koga Clan. During the fights, Iga ninjas are starting to realize that Koga ninjas aren’t their only enemy – in the secret room at the Iga House where Ms.Reiha, Ittoki, Ryoko, and Kirei realize that there are robots amongst the ninjas, the Asura squad.
The Iga Clan is clearly outnumbered, while they count with 48 ninjas in the front line, Koga has 250 in the front alone.
At the prison, while Kosetsu drops a smoke bomb and attempts to run away with Yumika, who had previously been sentenced to death, Tokisada “The Demi-God” has in his plans to take out all of the guards that went after them at once.
Hard Battle to Win
The battle between Iga and Koga is a hard one to win, no matter how many Asura robots they defeat, they are replenished instantly, which will probably lead to exhaustion on Iga’s side, and the more time passes, the more disadvantageous and outnumbered they get.
However. Mr. Kozo seems to believe that all they have to do is hold out until Tokisada gets there, making Ittoki question if they can all stay in the mansion until he returns, but such a plan would be too risky.
Ittoki is confused as to why Koga are being so careful, since they have more ninjas and more power, they should be able to attack them all at once, so it doesn’t make any sense. Ittoki asks about the percentage of Asura robots – each unit contains 1 Koga ninja and 4 Asura robots, meaning that most of the squad are robots. He then asks Ms. Reiha to report anything she notices about the Asura to the Iga ninjas, no matter how trivial it may seem, and Ryoko asks to bring one of the robots in so she can analyze it.
An Iga Ninja brings an Asura unit as Ryoko wanted, and she gets straight to work.
After opening up an Asura unit, Ryoko found out that the Ninja Core is combined with the Ninja Outfit, to bring the human’s physical abilities to the limit, but in this case, it is inefficient since the amount of energy in the Ninja Core used for it is too small, and it seems that the Asura units can only move for an hour at most.
Shiota sends a report to Ms.Reiha, as it appears that some robots take an unnatural step back before they kill their target and end up running away. The reason could be because it has run out of energy. This limitation of energy explains why Koga was after Iga’s Secret Ninja Core, as it contains unlimited energy.
Ryoko suggests that, since the Asura units don’t have a lot of energy time, there must be a recharging station where they rotate between the ones that are charging and the ones that go out attacking, and if they destroy that station, they can defeat the robots. The Iga can’t spare any ninjas to locate these stations, so Ittoki volunteers to go, accompanied by Ryoko as she feels guilty since the robots were created by her father.
Kirei starts sending a message to Suzaku, telling him that the base is being targeted, but doesn’t seem to finish sending it.
At the prison, Tokisada is still in fight mode with Genji, but they are both exhausted. Shione and her squad show up and they arrest Genji, after getting a hold of the body of Goshogawara who he had killed, he is charged with the murder of Goshogawara Hayato and must surrender. And with this, Tokisada leaves.
Kousetsu is ordered by Tokisada to leave the village with Yumika and hide, but Yumika wants her to take them to the mansion, as she can’t run away when the village is in danger since she is the Chief.
Befriend The Enemy
Ittoki and Ryoko find the charging station, and Ittoki wants to find a way to destroy it right away, against complaints of Ryoko saying it’s dangerous. Ryoko gives in and gives Ittoki explosives so he can detonate the base and another tool to deactivate the robots so he can get away unharmed. As they both attack the station, it appears that one of the Ninjas is Himura, who attacks Ittoki right away and attempts to kill him, and as he is being held by Asura units, one of them steals the explosive and runs towards the station, allowing Ittoki to still detonate it.
After Ittoki and Ryoko gain consciousness, they attempt to get away, but first Ittoki feels the need to check the Asura unit who stole from him and detonated the station, and it turned out to be Kirei undercover. She is still conscious and she tells Ittoki that people say that to deceive the enemy, you have to befriend them first, a quote that has a deeper meaning but Ittoki and Ryoko believe it’s just because she pretended to be one of them in the middle of all the Asura units.
Shione visits Genji in jail to find answers to the murder of her captain. She starts by asking if the murder was ordered by Minobe Kido and if he switched to the Koga Clan side because he wanted the position, but Genji doesn’t give in and remains silent about the topic. Shione tells him that the Clan that he was so devoted, turned him over at the first opportunity they had, as the Ninjas who were taking Goshogawara’s body to burn it snitched on him being the perpetrator of the crime.
Kousetsu and Yumika get to the mansion, and the first thing she asks about is Ittoki, who is safe after protecting the village. All of a sudden, Kousetsu gets some sort of pain in her head and starts acting nothing like herself, threatening to kill Yumika with a knife to her throat, and asking for the Secret Ninja Core. The message out to the group outside the village is that Kousetsu has betrayed them and is holding Yumika hostage. We see Genji in his cell meditating and saying the exact same words as Kousetsu, so we can assume he is controlling her.
Despite the fear, Yika knows that that isn’t Kousetsu, and upon taking her mask off, she sees that Kousetsu is biting her lips so hard they are bleeding, hugging her to try to get her out of the trance she is in, and Kousetsu ends up collapsing on the floor.
In the light of Dawn
When Ittoki gets to the mansion he finds a terrorizing scene in front of him: Kousetsu has killed Yumika, who lays lifelessly in a pool of her own blood while Kousetsu stands above her, with an empty look on her face but tears streaming down. Tokisada also arrives to find Ittoki hugging his mother and crying about her death.
What a tense episode… I am still speechless even after writing all of this. The last part of this episode was so incredibly sad, I can’t believe they made Kousetsu kill someone, who has basically been her mother. I am however excited to see where this will lead, how Genji was possibly controlling her, and what kind of punishment could she get for killing the Iga Chief.
But we will have to wait until next Tuesday to find out! Meanwhile, check out our other news at LAN! Today we recommend The Vampire Dies in No Time Season 2 to Start on January 9th, Akiba Maid War Episode 5 Review, and Sonic Frontiers gets an update, version 1.10.
