Ms. Fujimiya Arrives
This episode begins with Amane’s mother ringing his apartment doorbell. As soon as Fujimiya opens the door, he immediately tells his mother to leave. Amane responds by saying that he has no charm but proceeds to let her in as she only came to check up on him. As his mother walks through his home, she notices Amane hiding something from her.
While Amane says that it’s nothing, his mother suddenly catches Shiina sleeping on his floor while holding a teddy bear. Now you would think Amane’s mother would be furious seeing this, but she instead reacts excitedly since Mahiru is adorable. The mother begins to think that the two are dating, and Amane quickly tries to reassure her that they are just friends.

It’s Not What You Think!
Ms. Fujimiya proceeded to wonder how she was getting the wrong idea since she believed that Amane would not invite her into his bedroom if he did not like her and vice versa. Giving a good point, Amane admits in his head that he does like her, but aloud that he likes her as a friend and Shiina should feel the way as well.
Mahiru eventually hears the conversation and wakes up. As she genuinely believes Shiina is Amane’s girlfriend, his mother immediately introduces herself and advises Mahiru to call her by her first name, Shihoko. While shocked and half awake, Mahiru attempts to explain that Shihoko has the wrong idea, but Amane tells her to give it up since his mother is not going to be convinced.

As Shihoko leaves his son’s residence, Amane then apologizes for failing to clear things up before she left, as he feels that his mother will bug her. Although this may be true, Shiina remarks that it is nice to see a mother like Shihoko as her parents are not as lively as her. Shiina later attempts to return Fujimiya’s key back, but Amane insists on keeping it until they stop hanging out. Mahiru responds by warning him that she might do wifey-material tasks at his place (such as stuffing the fridge with food, cleaning the entire house, etc.).

Amane’s Attempt to Cook
The next day, Amane surprises Shiina with a cake in celebration of her ranking top of the class after exams. On the other hand, Mahiru does not feel like it’s anything special as she is always at the top of her class. She then attempts to let Amane try some of her cake by feeding it to him with her fork. Fujimiya reacts by doing the same thing to prove to Shiina that if she does stuff like that in public, people will get the wrong idea.
This causes Amane to realize how much he has been relying on Mahiru and wants to start cooking on his own. After grocery shopping, Fujimiya runs into Shiina at the elevator. As they talk about his plans, Shiina insists that she should supervise his cooking in case he messes up. Amane then attempts to make an omelet, but it came out as bland scrambled eggs. Already knowing that Amane was going to flop on his cooking, Shiina brings out a perfectly cooked omelet for the duo to eat.

A Party at Fujimiya’s
Back at school, Chitose proposes to have a Christmas Eve pizza party at Fujimiya-san’s house. After declining, Amane gives in to the proposal only if the party ends before dinnertime. After Amane describes his plans to Shiina, Mahiru explains how declined all her plans since she curved most of the guys at school and most of her friends are in relationships. Hearing this, the duo comes up with a plan to spend Christmas Day together since the previous night will be busy.
At the Christmas Party, Itsuki notices how clean the place is compared to the last time he visited. Chitose then decides to talk about Mahiru in regard to her turning down several guys at once. As Amane showed no interest, the couple teases if the reason he doesn’t care is because of his neighbor. Seeing the snow appear, the trio later quickly goes out onto the balcony to witness the White Christmas. Suddenly, they see Mahiru next door admiring the snow as well.

Overall Thoughts
I love how the episode shows how much Amane and Shiina are really trying to focus more on building their mutual compassion. There is not one part of the episode that displays their romantic tension being rushed. This allows fans to watch the wholesome romance unfold naturally throughout the series.
What are your thoughts about the third episode? Do you enjoy or dislike anything about the duo’s relationship? Do you wish to see anything different in the show? Feel free to share your response in the comments! 😊
