Itsuki’s 3-Day Stay
In class, Ikkun brings a bag of clothes and explains to Amane that he must stay at his house because his dad is kicking him out. While the trio greets each other, Mahiru explains what she’ll be doing regarding cooking. The best friend then whispers in Amane’s ear about Shiina having a key. As the three later enjoy dinner, Itsuki acknowledges how lucky Amane is to be having such excellent meals every day.
The next day, Chitose shows up with Mahiru because she felt left out when Ikkun had Shiina’s cooking without her. While she assumes that she could stay over at Mahiru’s house, Shiina nods her head and reassures Amane that she agreed to it before they arrive. Chi later mentions how she would like to learn how to cook as well as Mahiru.
Amane then says that she could learn from what Mahiru does, even in general. This causes Chitose to reply that since Shiina comes off really bored at school, she doesn’t want to be like her necessarily. She continues to say that Shiina should open up more, as it could potentially get Amane to spoil her. Of course, Mahiru tries to play it off as if nothing like that would ever happen. but this time, Amane doesn’t say a thing back but sighs and looks away instead.
Treasuring a Gift
Later that day, Amane received a text with a picture of Mahiru. This causes Ikkun to take a picture of his reaction and send it to Chitose. The best friend then leaves Amane’s residence as he will spend a few days at Chitose’s house.
Mahiru and Amane begin to discuss the photo of her with Mr. Bear in it. This leads Mahiru to describe how she takes care of the stuffed animal as she treasures her gift from Amane. After saying such “embarrassing” but cute things, Mahiru tells Amane to say something he does that’s embarrassing, or else she’ll ask Ikkun via text. As she explains how she got the number and tries to talk about the picture of Amane, she pauses and tells her to forget about it.
The next day, Amane overhears Shiina’s biological mother talking rudely to her. After the conversation, Mahiru explains to Amane how she’s used to her mother being that way and advises him not to be concerned. This causes Fujimiya to grab Shiina by the wrist and tells her to stay with him. Back at home, while the two are holding hands, Mahiru explains how she feels that her parents never intended to raise her, and how she regrets trying so hard to impress them to get their attention.
After hearing everything she went through, Amane begins to put a cover on her and hug her. He then advises her to cry as she can’t continue to hold it in. Following this, Shiina thanks Amane for allowing her to cry on his shoulders and returns to leaning on him. She soon begins to say her flaws and explain how she’s not likable, which causes Fujimiya to reassure her that he likes her a lot.
The two later decide to go out for a walk, and suddenly Mahiru hugs Amane as thanks for everything he does for her. The duo then notices the cherry blossoms, which leads Mahiru to explain why she doesn’t really like spring. But because Amane is by her side, she admires the flowers even more.
This episode had so many emotions I couldn’t beat them all at once. Even though the hardships are surprisingly regular, it still makes it all more hurtful to see in the show. The characters and relationships in this anime overall are done wonderfully well. On the other hand, I really think Chitose could’ve come off a little more subtle given her intentions.
How do you feel about the seventh episode? Do you enjoy or dislike anything about the show so far? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
