Previously we got to see Ray interacting with the clubs he is in. He was challenged to a match by Amelia during class. Later during lunch Albert comes up to challenge him to a duel. The duel takes place in a secluded area with real swords. Albert ultimately lost & everyone was then pinned down by gravity inside of the barrier.
The mysterious figure that was lurking around in the last few episodes turned out to be Miss Gray. As a member of Eugenics, she was looking to take everyone there as test subjects. It was then revealed that Ray was the Iceblade Sorcerer. Finding herself at a disadvantage. Miss Gray used an item made from their research to change into a more monstrous form in order to beat Ray. Let’s see how that plays out shall we.
Ice Blades Power
The barrier is destroyed as they continue their battle. As time goes on Ray’s body is starting to freeze. Miss Gray attacks with fire magic, but to no avail. Ray produces more blades of ice. She asks what is going on. So Ray states that the blades are attributive & not physical. This only confuses her, demanding a more specific answer.
She tries another fire attack only for it to be undone by Ray. He proceeds to give Miss Gray a lesson in ice sorcery. The proceeds to tell of using anti-material code, he can turn the code theory over & turn every sorcery back into Prima material. Miss Gray dismisses anti-material code as a theory that could only work on paper. Out of desperation she uses Mind interference sorcery.
Ray uses his ice blades to attack her magic. As the fight progresses Ray’s friends begin to notice that his body is becoming covered in ice. Albert is moving his friends out of the way as he continues to watch the battle. Miss Gray believes she can win as she thinks he can not control his own power. Ray then uses ‘Ice Flowers Profusion’ to put an end to this fight. Ray’s body is almost completely iced up as he uses sorcery on himself to lock away his power. His friends come rushing to check on him as he passes out.
We see a younger Ray, who looks about age 6, waking up in Lydia’s arms. Lydia brings him back to their camp. Shortly later she is informed that the Kingdom is refusing to take him in as a war orphan. It is apparently due to his village being independent of the kingdom even though it is within their borders. The village is also considered a cured village, as they have rituals to summon deities. They continue to discuss religion, rituals & sorcery within the kingdom.
Abbie then proceeds to tell Lydia that the boy had regained consciousness. To which Lydia says that Abbie should have mentioned that first. She goes to check on the boy & finds Carol with him. He wouldn’t speak with Carol, but gives a delayed response to Lydia when giving his name. After some time Lydia comes to invite him to play & finds him with Carol reading a book. Ray smiles for a moment during Lydia & Carol’s interaction.
One night Lydia & Abbie talk about what will happen to Ray. The following day their group discusses what to do with Ray. When it came to Lydia voicing her opinion. She notices Ray peeking in & asks him what he wants. Having voiced what he wanted it was decided that he would stay with them. Lydia proceeds to establish a master & disciple relationship with Ray.
Far East War
Six years have past & Ray is fighting on the battlefield with the others. Elsewhere we see Lydia & two others discussing a case of overheating. Which is when one over uses sorcery to a point that puts a strain on their mental state. Commenting that a battlefield is a place made for overheating. Back at camp, it is mentioned that the battle is getting more dangerous & is unclear if even their unit will make it out unharmed. Ray’s position is brought back into question as he is still young & it’s not too late for him to back out.
Ray refuses to leave as he views this unit as his family. Howard then states to Ray that he’d save him if something ever happened. We then see Ray rushing to Howard on the battlefield & seeing him killed right before his eyes. This causes Ray to have a mental break & go into overheating. Lydia is on the ground bleeding watching as Ray begins to lose control. In the light he sees Harvard telling him to live on.
Truth Be Told
Ray wakes up in the infirmary with Lydia, her maid & Abbie. Lydia tells him not to worry too much as she would have done the same in his situation. Abbie informs him that everyone is okay & that it was just a lack of mana to which everyone has fully recovered. Lydia & her maid, Carla, then proceed to leave after seeing that Ray was alright. Abbie goes on to tell Ray how she was against letting him into the academy at first, but Lydia insisted that it was needed. As Abbie leaves the room, she tells his friends that the door is open for them, while they try to hide.
His friends come in to check on him. Ray proceeds to apologize for hiding the fact that he is one of the strongest sorcerers. He continues to tell them about how he caused an Overheat during the final battle of the Far East War. Having lost control he doesn’t know what happened. When he had returned to his senses the area had been reduced to ashes. Lydia was hugging him covered in blood. Ray tells them that he is still using a sorcery called Chronos Lock to suppress the Overheat.
Amelia asks if that is why he is unable to use sorcery, to which he confirms. He talks about how his hands are covered in blood. His friends begin to comfort him & stating that they don’t care about his past as they are friends & want to remain by his side. Later that night, Albert coms to see Ray. He apologizes to Ray & is given a pep talk, as well as counseling by Ray. The two of them appear to be on more friendly terms. Later a new teacher to replace Miss Gray is introduced. Much to the dismay of Ray, their new teacher is Carol Caroline.
My Thoughts on the Episode
The fight was a bit too short, but understandably so & entertaining. We also got to see how Ray came to meet Lydia & the others. As well as to what happened in the scene we got at the start of the series. Mostly we know about Ray’s past with the Astral Unit, but nothing much about his home before the war. Other than its special position within the kingdom.
Ray’s friends are now fully aware of who he is & how it doesn’t appear to change things between them. Albert is no longer a hater & appears to be turning a new leaf, given his conversation with Ray. It was funny to see how troubled Ray looked when Carol was introduced as their new teacher. Looks like it may get a bit more amusing with her around.
Hopefully we get to learn more about Eugenics in the remaining episodes. Because I highly doubt they will stay quiet for long. Overall I’d likely give this episode a 6 out of 10. See you all again for the next episode – “The World’s Strongest Sorcerer Wears a Mask”.
