To round out the year, Fall 2023 is looking like it’ll have some hard-hitters. We’ve got romance galore, and some of our writers even have been so excited they’ve looked at the manga ahead of time. What does the roundup look like, and what can you get hyped for? Let’s take a look.
5. Spy x Family Season 2
Yes yes, of course this had to be included — if you’ve been living under a rock and missed the insane popularity of Spy x Family last year, let us tell you that this series has international attention. In Japan, you can’t go anywhere without seeing SpyxFamily merchandise; making it our Number 5 slot.
4. The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You
This series has a very strange premise, and it can either go Problematic or Awesome. We’re watching, with eager eyes but also hesitantly. Rentarou Aijou faces constant rejection in his pursuit of love. On his journey to find a girlfriend, he visits a matchmaking shrine where a god promises him 100 soulmates in high school. Rentarou is initially skeptical, but when two girls confess to him on the same day they meet, he begins to believe the god’s words. However, there’s a catch: if any of his soulmates fail to enter a relationship with him, they will die.
Now facing a life-and-death situation, Rentarou embarks on a quest to date all 100 of his soulmates, leading to a growing and unconventional family of girlfriends. This romantic comedy explores Rentarou’s unique and heartwarming high school life as he juggles multiple relationships.
Obviously, a woman deserves mutual respect and exclusivity in a relationship. So how will this anime go? Let’s see.
3. Heat the Pig Liver: The Story of a Man Turned Into a Pig
The premise astounds me, and I’m completely unsure how this Isekai will go. We’ve got a cute girl and our pig protagonist. With tags like “Comedy” and “Fantasy”, we’re just glad there’s no “Romance” tag. How will this one pan out? Who knows!
2. You Were Experienced, I Was Not: Our Dating Story
We got so excited for this title here on LAN that we actually read Volume 1 of the manga, and this seems like an exceptional tale of love and self-worth. Runa Shirakawa is known for being a “Wh*re” and dating whoever comes her way; but what Ryuuto discovers about her is not only that he’s in love with her for more than just her body, but Runa actually is a very soft, gentle and loving partner who desperately just wants to be accepted.
Is Runa “worth less” because she’s Experienced? Absolutely not, says this anime. And we love that.
1. Goblin Slayer II
Ah yes, the Dark Fantasy tale of Goblin Slayer, the infamous show that began Season 1 Episode 1 with a disgusting r*pe scene to show the gruesomeness of this world, where every character has no name other than “Priestess”, “Elf” or “Goblin Slayer”.
How on Earth will season 2 pan out? Well, definitely a lot more Goblin Slaying.
