Three Days After

After the tragedy that hit Jeneora Rock, caused by E.G. and Knives Millions, that left the population wounded and dead, Meryl, Roberto, and Vash are once again on the road. On the radio, there’s speculation that Vash was behind the incident, as he always gets the blame for what his twin brother does.
The trio runs into a man crossing the desert with a cross on his back and Meryl accidentally hits him with the car, now speeding to get him help. They find a place where they can ask for help, but once they get there, everyone inside is dead except for a kid who is hiding in a locker.
Funeral Knowledge
The man goes outside and places the cross he was carrying on the floor, praying for the dead in front of it. Apparently, he is not a priest like Meryl thought, he just “knows how funerals work”. Meryl is just as curious as everyone else about the big cross he carries, but the man remains mysterious about it.

Emotionally, the man carries a cross as well. His parents died when he was a kid, and he grew up in an orphanage, but despite that, he still carries some humor with him. Understanding how the kid they found feels, he gives him a lollipop to cheer him up, and gives Meryl and Vash a 20,000 dollars bill for his services… which Meryl and Vash never asked for.
Eaten By a Worm

What the group describes as a giant worm comes out of the desert floor and swallows them. Inside, they see corpses laying around, and even in this grim situation, the man doesn’t put his cross down, claiming that that’s how he earns money. The kid suddenly runs into a hole, following a wild worm, and now the group has to split into various holes to find the kid.
Meryl finds the kid, laying on the floor, and when she stops to help, she gets attacked.
Suspicious

Robert has suspicions about the man that joined their group, mostly because he doesn’t let anyone look into the cross he carries. Roberto tells Vash that there are people that can control worms, and it seems like he has reasons to believe that the man can, even though he also got eaten by one with them.

A fight is about to break out between them, and seeing that Vash is too optimistic about the newcomer, Roberto tells Vash that he is a man that is capable of killing with a smile on his face, something that Vash doesn’t believe and tells Roberto to “just look at his eyes”. This comment made him blush, and when they turn to look at Roberto in an “I told you so” manner, he is simply gone.
Worm Controller
While they look for the missing ones, the worm expels them to the outside but follows them again. They end up inside it once again, as Vash is determined to save Roberto, Meryl, and the kid. When inside, he finds the kid and finds out that he is the one who controls the worms and was also responsible for the death of the people inside the place he was found at.
The man keeps warning Vash that he keeps turning his back on him, and when Vash looks back at him, in the place of his cross is a machine gun. This leads us to think that he is a traitor that will try to kill Vash, but he tries to shoot the kid instead, who is a wild worm himself. With his weapon, he lasers the worm in half, saving them all.

They sit around a fire pit, together with three men who stumbled across them in the desert, and they share the worm’s meat.
Nicholas D.Wolfwood
The man whose name was up until now unknown introduces himself as Nicholas D. Wolfwood.
Nicholas sits alone smoking, and behind him is the kid that controls the worms, Zazie the Beast. It seems that they work together and it was all a plan for Nicholas to gain the group’s trust by saving them. It’s all part of “his job”.
