Uncle from another world might seem like your typical Isekai anime, but believe me, it is not! Isekai genre has become quite popular these days. However, fans are getting sick of those cliche Isekai plots with an overpowered MC and fantasy world setting. They want something NEW and this show is definitely what weebs desired.
A guy who just woke up from coma claims he was teleported to another world and remembers EVERYTHING! Interesting, right?
Produced and presented by Netflix, this anime has some decent animation and art style. I know Netflix has ruined a lot of anime in recent years including Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Record of Ragnarok, and The Way of the Househusband. I seriously hope they won’t ruin this one.
Without any further ado, let’s get started with the review!
Ojiisan Awakens?

The episode begins with a young man named Takafumi Takaoka wandering on the streets. He managed to survive Truck-kun as he was going to meet his uncle who had just woken up from a coma after getting hit by a truck 17 years ago. Takafumi had never met his uncle before so he was a bit nervous.
His nervousness disappeared after his uncle greeted him in a weird language. Yousuke Shibazaki AKA Ojisan realized that Takafumi didn’t understand a single word and he has to communicate in Japanese. He quickly apologized and claimed that he hasn’t spoken Japanese in a while as he was living in a Fantasy World for 17 years.
He inquired about his family and sister, but Takafumi said that they would not visit him.
Ojiisan is a Magician?

Following this, Ojiisan employs magic to demonstrate to Takafumi that he was indeed living in a fantasy world. He tried a few simple spells but was unsuccessful. Soon, he realized that he has to cast the spells in Japanese. With this realization, he was able to use magic. Takafumi’s gloomy face sparkled with joy.
Ojiisan and Sega!

After this, Ojiisan asked Takafumi about the infamous console war, and who was winning it! He was a huge fan of Sega so it was a shock to him that they had stopped making consoles. He showed Takafumi his old diary and Takafumi regretted seeing the diary. Ojiisan had to erase his memories with a spell.
Ojiisan’s Life in the Other World

Takafumi took Ojiisan to his apartment and they became roommates. They also started a youtube channel and earned a decent amount of money.
Ojiisan told Takafumi about his life in the other world. Not all of them were good memories ofc. He told him that he was treated like an Orc because of his face. No one liked and believed him. Takafumi sympathized with him. Ojiisan also told him about a beautiful girl whom he had saved but she didn’t even thank him properly. All of this was way too heavy on Takafumi’s little heart as he started crying.
Ojiisan and Technology

Ojiisan learned how to operate a laptop and look up comments on his video. At first, he was enjoying it, but the harsh comments really took a toll on him. Takafumi realized that Ojiisan doesn’t know how this new generation works and how to take criticism.
Following this, they started looking up cell phones as Ojiisan wanted one with a lot of buttons. After that, Ojiisan showed Takafumi his old memories of when people tried to hang him for no good reason and the very same girl saved him. Takafumi saw the girl’s face and was shocked to witness how beautiful she was.
As time passed by, the auction time for the cell phone was about to commence. Ojiisan ended up buying the phone but the shipping was way too much. He had to fly there to collect his package. With this, Takafumi learned that his uncle can fly and he can now order stuff with high shipping as well.
Ojiisan’s Love Life

Following some weird events, Takafumi asked Ojiisan about his love life, to whom he replied that his only love was the Sega Console and video games. Takafumi asks if he had any experience in the other world. Ojiisan, once again, showed him his memories of which he had saved a young girl and his brothers from a monster. However, to Takafumi, it looked like the girl was scared more of Ojiisan rather than the monster lol!
We also witness the memories of the elf who had saved Ojiisan when he was starving. Ojiisan offered her a ring as a debt return. He didn’t think much of it, but for our poor Takafumi, it was outrageous!
The episode ended with Ojiisan selling the ring he gave to that girl and ditching her in a town.
Takafumi realized that the girl loved his uncle, but she was a Tsundere!
Conclusion
This episode was pretty decent in my opinion. There are a lot of unanswered questions like how Ojiisan managed to come back to the real world and how can he still use magic? Hopefully, we’ll get the answers in the next few episodes.
I really liked the premise. It was really interesting. The humor was also pretty decent.
