Previously on Urusei Yatsura 2022
Ataru got stuck in another exorcism by Sakura. This time, a pair of boxing gloves was involved! Ataru and Lum faced each other in a boxing match but Ataru protected Lum all the time! Making Lum fall for Ataru All over again. Meanwhile, Ataru’s classmates took on Mendo and sent Ataru a love letter from a fake girl but he took it too seriously. To save him from humiliation, Lum took the fake girl’s place. Thanks to this, Ataru started looking at Lum with different eyes! But then, Lum suddenly got a call from her home planet!
War
Ataru is hungry but sukiyaki is waiting for him at home. Lum receives him in shining armor ready to go back to her home planet to participate in the Alien Setsubun which seems to be much more scary and dangerous than Japanese Setsubun.
When they reach the battlefield, Lum’s army and the opponents are all fired up to be part of it. The battle will be settled with a game of basket tower toss. The team who throws more balls into the basket wins.
Ataru discovers the leader of the opponent team/army and Lum’s childhood friend, Benten and of course, starts flirting with her making Lum furious.
At Ataru’s home, his parents are worried when he is not home yet even though it’s sukiyaki night. A tragedy had to take place for someone to miss sukiyaki night, right? Cherry the Monk makes an appearance claiming he just saw a dream of Ataru in hell and he came to bring him back? Cherry the Monk sensed Ataru’s ghost who can’t go to the other side because he couldn’t have his sukiyaki. Obviously, the only way to give Ataru peace is by holding a sukiyaki party for everyone to eat.
Back at lums planet, poor Ataru in hell is flirting with Benten. Lum loses control and electrocutes the place throwing the basket through the air. That makes the other team winner and the culprit for the losing team should be punished by playing the Demon and having beans thrown at him
While in Ataru’s home cherry the monk offers a prayer to Ataru’s soul and makes contact with it and his humiliation gets broadcasted for all his family to see.
The cold
All that stress, surely makes anyone catch a cold. Ataru is in bed, suffering from a stuffed nose while Shinobu takes care of him. But peace doesn’t last long since Ataru’s classmates came to visit him… which, in reality, means visiting Lum.
Lucky for Lum, she’s visiting a friend in Neptune. A magical portal to Neptune opens and buries everyone with snow. Out of it comes the Yuki-onna, Oyuki for friends.
And she takes the whole party to her back to Neptune. After failing through a hole connecting both planets, Lum meets Ataru and the other Snow Maidens are happy to find men to help with the snow accumulation… in a snow planet? How’s that not part of the public politics program of Neptune is a mystery never to be solved.
Ataru, Lum, and Shinobu are taken back to Oyuki’s castle where we discover the beautiful girl under the kimono, and Ataru is the first one to notice. But he also manages to offend Lum and Shinobu at the same time so Lum electrocutes him away. Ataru’s taken to Oyuki’s room and she’s way too… attentive… to him.
A very huge, very furry servant finds Oyuki being a… good host… with Ataru and stars chasing him through the whole castle, the snow gardens, and into the dimensional connecting hole in Oyuki’s backyard.
Ataru takes a leap of faith and jumps into the hole connecting back to Ataru’s home in Japan taking Bee-Boo, the servant, with him. Ataru’s parent’s house was about to be destroyed once again and they are still hating life. Of course, a giant Yeti on your roof will make it to the periodic.
Back in Neptune, while Ataru is still trying to get over his illness, Mendo the diligent man will die in Neptune making snow paths…
Breaking the 4th wall
The first semester of school is over, Mendo managed to get back home safely and Lum comes to pick Ataru up but before that, he means business. He stands in front of the whole class and announces his retirement.
The teacher makes all the relevant questions like how does he plan on living without education or if he even asked his poor parents? Mendo is pleased to be the new protagonist of Urusei Yatsura. How did it come to this? The class starts wondering who would be the new protagonist, what about Cherry the Monk? Or Sakura? Everyone knows it’s Lum though but nevertheless, every character that appeared so far is determined to become the new protagonist.
Ataru gets frustrated about this sudden misunderstanding and clarifies: He meant to retire as a class president! Like anyone remembered that!
