Previously on Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!, we saw that she was extremely hellbent on getting Shinichi Sakurai to use her first name. In addition, we saw her younger brother Kiri meet Sakurai for the first time!
Opening Scene
The Uzaki family is gathered around a laptop with Papa Fujio in the center. He excitedly books a trip for the family to visit a water theme park for the day. Upon asking Kiri if he wants to join, he remembers accidentally seeing Sakurai’s penis in the changing room of the pool the other day, and afraid it’ll happen again with another person, quickly declines.
The Car Ride
The Uzaki family behave relatively well in the car at first, until Yanagi begins to tease Uzaki about her possibly wanting to bring her Senpai along.
Uzaki immediately denies this, turning her head away. Her father grows angry at the thought of Uzaki being rejected.
Two Girls at a Theme Park
There are two specific running gags in the show: first, that Uzaki is short and can pass for much younger than she is (20), and second, that the women in the Uzaki family all have very big boobs.
This is evidenced by a shot of Yanagi in her swimsuit. Fujio takes it upon himself to protect his big-boobed women from onlookers and flirtatious advances. Two young men approach Yanagi and Uzaki, but Yanagi thinks quick on her feet, claiming they are middle schoolers. (In fact, Yanagi is the one in middle school, meanwhile Uzaki is in college.)
The boys back off, but we get a comedic scene of them then hitting on Tsuki, the mother.
This Man Likes to Flex
Fujio is approached by a few young men who are in awe at his muscles. He opts to do a small photoshoot for them as the women in his family go about their business for a small while.
Uzaki wanders off on her own for a bit before running into both Sakaki and Sakurai. It turns out they came completely separate from Uzaki, coincidentally on the same day.
Family Before Crushes
As Uzaki and Sakurai talk (and Sakaki totally third wheels), they discuss about whether or not they should hang out together. They opt to spend time away from one another for the day since Uzaki is with her family; he didn’t want to ruin their time together.
Uzaki grins and nods, prompting Sakurai to once again compliment her swimsuit. He does, and she blushes before going back to her family. Sakaki is fuming at their delusional non-relationship.
The family end their small trip and return home. Kiri is bummed out that he didn’t go.
Opinions / Analysis
I am getting a little sad with this show; firstly, we had an opportunity here for Uzaki to bring Sakurai to the entire family, where Fujio could be in shock that HE is the senpai we’ve been talking about for so long. Tsuki and Yanagi are already aware of who ‘Senpai’ is, but I’d love to see their paths cross a bit more.
However, I do truly understand that Sakaki and Sakurai have a friendship that needs feeding. After all, friends have to hang out sometimes to keep their friendships going; or else they’ll drift apart. This adds a bit more realism to an otherwise goofy anime, and that’s something I can respect! However, it was a little weird seeing Yanagi in her swimsuit.
All in all, I enjoyed this episode, it was more ‘the Uzaki show’ rather than Uzaki and Sakurai, but I didn’t mind it so much. It did, however, almost feel like a stereotypical beach episode since not much happened to advance the plot along, or develop any deeper relationships.
