Right when Teshima has prepared himself for his last run in the Inter-High, a new chance and challenge suddenly appear before his eyes. Sohoku who has been left by the strategy and speed of Hakone tries to turn the table around by sending their captain to battle against the ace of Hakone.
Teshima’s Plan to Win the Climb
In the previous episode, we saw Teshima instruct Onoda to step down from being the ace climber for Sohoku on the last day. Naruko and Imaizumi disagree with the decision, but the captain explains his intentions behind the plan: he wants to tackle down Manami the Hakone’s ace climber on the mountain roads, and the only person that will be suitable for the mission is no other than their ace climber which is his rival, Onoda.
With the reason fully understood by the second-years, we move back again to the race where Sohoku who shows their undying spirit to overtake Hakone in the lead pack claims the result of their hope and hard work. Sohoku who is now being pulled hard by Teshima is finally able to catch up to the remaining four members of Hakone, and with this wonderful sight in front of him, Teshima is ready to launch his final energy to bring his team to a better position.
Captain’s Last Run… is Not Now
Teshima’s ambition and pressure to overtake Hakone can be felt by his team members and even his opponents, including his old friend from high school, Ashikiba the ace of Hakone. This sensation makes Ashikiba want to race for one last time with his old friend. He immediately stands up from his seat and pedals harder to challenge Sohoku’s captain.
Teshima who does not think that he must face a challenge at the moment is quickly covered and told by Imaizumi to prepare himself and his stamina for the biggest moment of his Inter-High. Imaizumi realizes that the situation has been changed by Teshima’s will, and the fact that the ace of Hakone is willing to leave away his pack so he can get a race with Teshima would be the perfect opportunity for Sohoku to defeat Hakone.
Opportunity Knocks on the Door Anytime
Teshima who is actually ready to drop out of the race since he has given his best efforts and energy to pull the team suddenly gets a troublesome duty. But even though it’s nearly impossible for him since he knows that he’s just an average racer and now running out of energy, he won’t let this surprising opportunity slip away and gladly takes the chance to take down Ashikiba.
With the trust of the graduated seniors who watch the race and the motivation from his juniors who push him, Teshima accelerates quickly to begin his duel with Ashikiba. Both of them leave the pack far away and begin to reminisce about the old time when they used to be teammates at Minami Junior High.
Ashikiba VS Teshima is On!
Ashikiba who has saved his energy and got his spirit burned up by Teshima pedals his bicycle with his signature move, Metronome Dancing. But Teshima won’t give up easily despite the amazing skill and speed of his old friend or the lack of stamina and strength in his body at the moment. Both of them launch their best to defeat each other and taste victory, especially after Teshima declares a challenge to see who can win the race for the upcoming mountain checkpoint a few kilometers ahead.
“Expect the unexpected” might be the best words to describe how surprising and fluctuating the tension and events in a road race are, especially in a fictional story like Yowamushi Pedal. Who could have imagined that turns out a “mediocre” racer like Teshima may bring a threat to Hakone and even wake up their ace to a final battle in the grandest stage of high school bicycle racing?
With a few kilometers left toward the mountain finish line and the deep history between Ashikiba and Teshima, it is completely guaranteed that the next episode will be filled with an epic race and an unforgettable clash between the two friends that have inspired and strengthened each other.
